Katja Niggemeier and Tita Kaisari-Ernst from InterContexts participated in the NECE Conference in Cordoba 21-24 November 2012, “ Participation Now! Citizenship Education and Democracy in Times of Change“.
This year a special attention was paid on the Arab spring or Arab awakening. A number of colleagues from North Africa took part on the conference and the European perspective opened on the south. Rather than speaking of West and East Europe, the focus was drawn to North and South, referring both to North Africa and south Europe. The main issues discussed during the conference were the transition to democracy, democracy in crises, the relation between religion and democracy, one democracy or multiple democracies due to cultural specificities, the relation between Europe and North Africa. What was in particular interested, was to listen the different analysis and points of views on the current situation of democracy and democratic practices, for example on the role of demonstration.
The Grundtvig learning partnership InterContexts was also presented in the project market of the NECE Conference in Cordoba.
NECE Conference was a good opportunity to talk with colleagues, to learn about other projects in the area mainly of civic education and to exchange views. So who is on for next year in The Hague?
